HOW CHIVUBECAME INTER LEGEND

Christian enjoyed a relatively good career especially at club football level and he was able to retire as a legend for Inter Milan in the Italian Serie A. He started his club career at CSM Resita before he played some first team games for the club between 1997/98. Christian Chivu scored two goals in 24 games for the first team at CSM Resita in the league before he signed for FC UniversitateaCraiova for the 1998/99 season. Christian Chivu netted three times in 32 league games for the club before he left to move abroad for the first time in his career. His first club outside Romania was Ajax Amsterdam in the Dutch Eredivisie. Ex-Romanian national team player Chivu was at Ajax Amsterdam for four seasons before Italian Serie A capital club AS Roma were inspired to pay €18m for his services. AS Roma saw the quality in Christian Chivu and they were able to prise the utility defender away from the Dutch league. Christian Chivu was a versatile defender during his career as he can play as a left-back or as a left-sided centre back.


Inter Milan legend Christian Chivu was a regular in the AS Roma defence especially when he’s not injured. He won the Coppa Italia title with AS Roma in the last of his four seasons at the club before his move to Serie A rivals Inter Milan in the summer of 2007. Real Madrid and Barcelona were also keen to sign the petite defender that summer. Inter Milan were clear favourites to sign him and they did in a €16m deal in 2007. Christian Chivu penned a five-year deal at Inter Milan upon signing for the Nerazzuri. He would go on to spend seven fruitful years at Inter Milan before announcing his retirement from football in 2014. The biggest season of his football career came at Inter Milan when he was a member of the Inter Milan team that won a treble at the end of the 2009/10 season under the guidance of Jose Mourinho. The feat sealed his status as an Inter Milan legend. Christian Chivu was part of that team that won the league, the Coppa Italia and the Champions League under Jose Mourinho. He won two successive league titles before that season. Christian Chivu also won one Coppa Italia for Inter Milan apart from the one from that season and the 2010 FIFA Club World Cup. He was part of the Inter Milan squad that won the Italian Super Cup twice. Christian Chivu is now the u-18 manager at Inter Milan and he has been in the job since last year. He previously managed the u-14 and u-17 teams. Christian Chivu has been an Inter Milan coach since 2018.
